News Death Notice
WITHROW, Eldon D. age 85 of Kettering, Ohio passed away on Friday, June 29, 2012 after a sudden decline in health. He was born on April 6, 1927 in West Elkton, Ohio, the son of Ernest and Elsie (Miller) Withrow. He was educated in Butler County schools and graduated from Bremerton High School, Washington State during his time with the Armed Forces. Eldon served his country honorably during World War II as a member of the United States Navy assigned to the USS Macon Island in the Pacific. He was the devoted husband of Faye (Huffman) Withrow for 64 years. Eldon, a skilled tradesman in welding maintenance was employed by General Motors/Fisher Body Division for over 31 years, retiring in 1978. Besides spending time with family and friends, he enjoyed collecting, with a special interest in Indian relics, military memorabilia, coins and antiques. He was a member of the Ohio Archeological Society and liked to spend leisure time relic hunting and metal detecting. The majority of his life was spent in Hamilton, Ohio but in 2006 the couple moved to Kettering where they became active members of the Beavercreek Senior Center. Eldon vastly enjoyed spending time with friends at the Center and had particular interest in billiards and corn hole. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Richard "Whitey", Merle and William Withrow. He leaves behind his loving wife Faye, daughter Sherry (Don) Kurtz of Beavercreek, son, Steve (Lisa) Withrow of Centerville and son Karl (Ginny) Withrow of Columbus. He also leaves ten grandchildren, Kris (Bryan) Kurtz-Tschanz, Misty (Chris) Rogers, Kevin Kurtz, Michelle Withrow, Jakob O'Brien, Logan Withrow, Izaiah Withrow, Dylan Withrow, Rianna Withrow, Liberty Withrow and three great- grandchildren Madisyn and Kaleb Withrow and Kohen Kurtz. He is also survived by two sisters, Lucille (Leonard) Osso, Jean Barger and brother, Glen (Lois) Withrow, as well many nieces and nephews. Eldon will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Visitation will be Thursday evening, July 5 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Tobias Funeral Home - Beavercreek Chapel, 3970 Dayton-Xenia Road. Funeral services will take place on Friday morning, July 6, at 10:00 am at Tobias with interment following at 12:30 pm at Somerville Cemetery in the family plot. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Beavercreek Senior Center at 3868 Dayton-Xenia Road, Beavercreek, Ohio 45432.
