News Death Notice

BIRKHIMER, Gerald Glenn "Jerry" age 68, of Middletown, Ohio, passed away Saturday, August 9, 2014 at his residence. He was born July 14, 1946 in Middletown, and lived here all his life. He graduated from Middletown High School Class of '65, and served four years in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. After returning home from the service, he studied at the University of Cincinnati and Miami University. He was employed in Technical Instrument Repair at AK Steel for 32 years retiring in 1997. He then was employed as a repairman at Crane America for 13 years. Jerry loved spending special time with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed fishing and was a Reds baseball fan. The family extends their special thanks and appreciation to the staff on 4-North at Atrium Medical Center and Hospice Care of Middletown for their loving and professional care of Jerry during his illness. Preceding him in death were his parents, Onward L. and Flossie (Campbell) Birkhimer; and one sister, Phyllis Ripley. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Loretta G. (Roberts) Birkhimer; two step-children, Penny Adams, husband Scott and Dwayne Haney; three grandchildren, Nathan Adams, Megan Adams and Jessica Adams; one great grandson, Evan Adams; two brothers, Onward L. Birkhimer, Jr. and wife Ann, and Edwin Birkhimer and wife Norma; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Wednesday, August 13, 2014 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Herr-Riggs Funeral Home, 210 S. Main St., Middletown, followed by services at 1:00 p.m. Interment will be at Butler County Memorial Park, Trenton, Ohio, with Military Honors by the Middletown Combined Honor Guard. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Care of Middletown, 3909 Central Ave., Middletown, Ohio 45044. Arrangements by Herr-Riggs Funeral Home, 210 S. Main St. Middletown.
