News Death Notice

McMAHAN, Gerald W. Age 81, of Hamilton, peacefully reunited with his wife, Shirley, in Heaven on Wednesday, March 19, 2014 while in Hospice of Hamilton. He was born in Connersville, Indiana on March 21, 1932 the son of Henry Neil and Gussie (Miller) McMahan. The family later moved to Oxford, Ohio. After attending Miami University he began his life of service. He enlisted in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict and received an Honorable Discharge. On June 14, 1958 in Oxford Presbyterian Church, Oxford, Ohio, he married Shirley J. Painter, and they moved to Columbus, Ohio where he was employed by F&R Lazarus. In 1961 they moved to Hamilton where he began his career at the Credit Bureau of Hamilton with his father-in-law, Byron Painter. He was President of the Credit Bureau of Hamilton and during his time there helped many people establish credit and realize their dreams. He held officer positions with Credit Bureaus of Ohio and Credit Executives of Cincinnati. The Credit Bureau of Hamilton was subsequently sold to the Credit Bureau of Cincinnati and he continued to work there until he retired in August, 1992. He was an active member of St. Peters in Chains Catholic Church where he served on Parish Council, was a member of the church Worship Committee and lay communion distributor. He served as a board member of Rotary International and Hamilton Fine Arts. He was active in local theatre producing Rotary Revels shows and acting with Hamilton Civic Theatre. He was a member of the Hamilton YMCA for many years and "Unit One" - a group of runners. He was a beloved husband, father and grandfather and is survived by his daughter Cindy (John) Hamann of Liberty Township, Ohio and their three children Matthew, Amanda and USMC Corporal Joseph (Jessica) Hamann. He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley who passed away February 13, 2013, his parents and his brother, Gene, of Greenville, Ohio. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, March 22, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peters in Chains Catholic Church, Ridgelawn and Liberty Avenues with Father Patrick McMullen, celebrant. Visitation will be Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until time of the mass at the church. Interment will be in Rose Hill Burial Park on Tuesday, March 25 at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to , 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942.
