James S. BROCK Obituary

News Death Notice

BROCK, James S. James Stanley Brock was born on September 28,1942, in Lida, KY. He moved to Hamilton, OH when he was one year old. His parents were Violet Mooney Brock Sullivan and Chris Brock. His stepfather was Jerry Sullivan. He passed away on Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at 2:27 a.m., surrounded by his loving family. Jim was in the first graduation class of Garfield Senior High at 17 years of age. In May of 1961, he joined the U.S. Air Force and served honorably for 7 years, 7 months and 8 days. On November 23, 1961, Thanksgiving Day, he and Winnie (Hicks) were married at the Lindenwald Methodist Church while he was home on leave. They celebrated 52 years of marriage last November. (They met in the library at George Washington Junior High when they were both 14 years old. He said it was love at first sight and His love never wavered, but their first date was not until the Senior Prom.) After Jim was discharged from the U. S. Air Force, he and his wife and their two sons moved back to Hamilton, where they had two more children. In all they had three handsome sons and one beautiful daughter: James Stanley, Jr., John Spencer and Thomas Adna and their daughter, Shannon Kathleen. In addition to their own children, they were blessed with three lovely daughters- in-law: Roxanne, Paula and Jamie and a brand-new son-in-law, Thomas Payne. Jim and Winnie were also blessed with 13 grandchildren: Keith (Amanda), Emily (Josh), Matthew (Jennifer), Amanda Brock, Andrew (Jackie), Rachel, Michael, Lessie (Chris), Ashley (James), Daniel, T.J., Spencer and Alana (who has lived with them since birth). They also have 23 great-grandchildren (one deceased) and two more on the way. Jim enjoyed cowboy movies, old country music and he especially enjoyed shooting pool. Every Monday evening he had a standing date with Marty Mulligan for a couple games at Michael's Pool Hall. While Jim liked the game, he would never bet on it and if he found someone else was betting on him, he would put his stick down and walk away. Jim worked for the City of Hamilton for 32 years in the radio shop, having received his experience and training in the U. S .Air Force. He leaves behind his beloved and devoted companion, Winnie Brock; his children: James S., Jr. and Roxanne Brock, Cincinnati, OH, John and Paula Brock, Hamilton, OH, Tom and Jamie Brock, Schertz, TX and Shannon (Brock)and Thomas Payne, Hamilton ,OH. He also leaves behind his brother, Lee Brock, Vine Grove, KY, sister, Ginny Morgan, Lexington, KY, sister and brother-in-law, Georgia and Gary Calia, Trenton, OH and sister-in-law, Sheila Brock, Hamilton, OH as well as many nephews, nieces and friends. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 24, 2014 at 1 p.m. at Weigel Funeral Home, 980 N. W. Washington Blvd. with Chaplain Tom Meyer, Hospice of Southwest Ohio officiating.
