Martha Brelsford Jacoby was welcomed into this world by Arthur Bertsch and Mary Sarah Brelsford Jacoby on September 8. 1914. Martha grew up and attended school in Middletown, Ohio. In 1936 she was a cum laude graduate of Miami University, Oxford, Ohio. After graduating, she taught high school English and Home Economics. In December of 1942, she married Dr. James S. Eley, also from Ohio. They established a home in Eureka, CA in 1946 where she was a devoted homemaker and an ardent music lover. Martha was a member of Mortar Board at Miami, University, a charter member of the Sequoia Chapter of the American Guild of Organists in Eureka, and was also eligible for membership in the Daughters of the American Revolution. Martha passed into a better life on February 28, 2013 at the age of 98. Survivors include three daughters: Mary Looman (Charles) of Carson City, Nevada; Elizabeth Muyres (Robert) of Eureka, CA; and Barbara Funk (Paul) of Wasco, CA; two sisters: Marjory Leflar and Marilyn Edwards of Oxford, Ohio; two grandchildren: Tracy Chaney of Fresno, CA and Matthew Funk of Prosser, WA; two great grandchildren: Jackson and Nikole Funk of Prosser WA and eleven nieces and nephews. According to her wishes, burial was with her parents and grandparents in the Jacoby family grave site in Woodside Cemetery Middletown, Ohio. Her pipe organ, which gave her many hours of joy during her life-long study of music, will be installed in the chapel at Woodside Cemetery at a date to be announced.
