HEISLER, Robert Y. age 90, recently of Hamilton, OH and previously of Vincentown, NJ passed away July 20, 2014 at Westover Retirement Community. He was born July 22, 1923 in Philadelphia, PA son of the late William H. and Ethyl Budd Heisler. Mr. Heisler was married to Betty Jane Heisler for 64 years and she preceded him in death on February 25, 2014. He also was preceded in death by his two brothers Clifford (Budd) and William H. Heisler III. He is survived by his three children, Barbara (Don) Kitts, Robert (Judy) Heisler and Thomas (Paula) Heisler, five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Bob was raised in Pemberton, NJ where he graduated from Pemberton High School. He continued his education by graduating cum laude from Peddie Preparatory school and then graduating from Princeton University in 1944 with an undergraduate degree in chemistry. Drafted into the Navy after college Bob was a WWII veteran serving as a Lieutenant (j.g.) and acting ship chaplain in the South Pacific. Following his military service he went to work for Smith, Kline and French before attending the University of Kansas where he graduated with a PhD in Organic Chemistry in 1952. He joined Texaco as a research chemist in 1952 and retired, as Fuels Research Manager, in 1985. Through his research at Texaco he earned 33 patents. Following his retirement he studied for and became a Certified Financial Planner. He was always very civic minded serving as: Chairman of a local planning board, Chairman of the Board of County Community Service, Board Member of the Dutchess County Office for the Aging, appointed to the State Board overseeing NY Nursing Administrators, active in church Sunday school and ministries, Trustee of the Vincentown, NJ library and enjoyed a lifelong involvement with the Boy Scouts. He loved to sing and was involved in church choirs, men's singing groups and Barbershop quartets. Throughout his life he reveled in spending time on the Jersey Shore with family and friends. There will be a Memorial Service officiated by Pastor Barry Wilson of the Hilltop Baptist Church in the Activity center of Westover Retirement Community, 855 Stahlheber Rd., Hamilton at 3:30 PM Thursday, July 24, 2014.
