Andrew S. Nowicki Obituary


Andrew S. Nowicki, 90, of Newington, passed away on Friday, April 25, 2014. A lifelong Newington resident, he proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, 7th Infantry, 3rd Division, during WWII and was a recipient of the Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart with 1 bronze oak leaf cluster, Good Conduct Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 1 silver service star, WWII Victory Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge 1st Award and Expert Infantryman Badge. He was a member of the VFW Post 9836, the Military Order of the Purple Heart, CT American Warriors (receiving an award in 2013) and the Disabled American Veterans. He was a parishioner of St. Mary Church and he treasured time fishing and spending time with his family. A loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Andrew leaves Leona, his wife of 59 years; his daughters, Janet Nowicki and her partner, Bill Wood of Newington, Linda Stock and her husband, Heinz of Milford, his son Andrew D. Nowicki and his wife, Maggie of Newington; grandchildren: Shayna Ann Golet and her partner Chris Corcoran of Middletown, Aleks Nowicki of Newington, and Jeremy, Kristofer and Michael Stock of Milford; as well as two great-grandchildren. He also leaves special friends Jessie and Jackie McLean and several nieces and nephews. Andy was pre-deceased by his son, Mark A. Nowicki; brothers and sisters: Frank, Ben, Martha and Helen Nowicki. His funeral service will begin on Tuesday, April 29th at 9:15 a.m. at the Newington Memorial Funeral Home, 20 Bonair Avenue, Newington; followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary Church, 626 Willard Avenue, Newington. He will be laid to rest with military honors in West Meadow Cemetery, Newington. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Tuesday, April 29th from 8:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at Newington Memorial.
