Arline Tehan Obituary


Arline Boucher Tehan, 97, died on June 21, 2014 in Rockville, Md of congestive heart failure. Mrs. Tehan, a long-time resident of West Hartford, began her career after college as a journalist for The Hartford Courant. She then worked for many years as the Director of Public Relations for Dr. Charles Burlingame at the Institute of Living. She was an arts critic, a book reviewer, a lecturer, an author of 3 biographies and, at the age of 94, published The Gates of Hell: Rodin's Passion in Stone. She had a life long love of the arts and could talk in depth about opera, poetry, painting, sculpture and drama. She was a true Renaissance woman. Mrs. Tehan was married to John Tehan who pre-deceased her. She had 6 children: Susan McLaughlin of Rockville, MD; Cynthia Tehan of Philadelphia, PA; Claire Tehan of Redondo Beach, CA; Jim Tehan of Redondo Beach, CA; Rita Tehan of Washington, DC and Jennifer Kowalsky who is deceased. She has 7 grandchildren. In addition, she leaves her sister Olive Hebert of San Diego, CA and 5 nephews and 1 niece. A celebration of her life will occur in Redondo Beach, CA. In lieu of flowers, the family request contributions in her name to the non-for-profit Rockville Nursing Home, 303 Adclare Road, Rockville, MD 20850.
