Bernard P. Lemanski Obituary


Bernard Peter Lemanski "Bernie", 86 of Deltona, FL and Westerly, RI passed away Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at Florida Hospice after a short illness. He was predeceased in February 2013 by his wife of 56 years, Lucy A. Lemanski for whom he lovingly cared during her long illness. Bernie was a devoted father and grandfather. He was kind, gentle and made friends wherever he went. He enjoyed fishing, photography and electronics but most of all his grandchildren. His honesty, integrity and true compassion for others will be greatly missed by all. Bernie was a graduate of Bulkeley High School and University of Hartford. He was enlisted in the regular Army at the end of WWII, assigned to the Mediterranean theater of operation. Upon leaving, he joined the Connecticut Army National Guard and was recalled to active duty during the Korean Conflict serving in Augsburg Germany assigned with the Headquarters 43rd Infantry Division as personal sergeant. Upon return to the U.S. was assigned to the CT Army National Guard Personnel Division of Operations & Training section with HQ detachment at the Hartford Armory, responsible for revision of operations directives of various staff sections and general troubleshooting. He was eventually assigned as Financial Director in USPFO for CT. His last assignment was Auditor, from which he retired as a Chief Warrant Officer 4. He is survived by his children, Janice and Kevin Drake of Simsbury, CT, Paul and Gigi Lemanski of Lake Mary, FL and Jo-Ellen and Louis Albanese of Colchester, CT as well as a brother, Alphonse J. Lemanski of Shelton. He leaves 3 grandchildren, Michael Kiro, Tyler Drake and Shelby Kiro. Memorial services will be held in Florida and Connecticut at a time to be announced.
