BIONDINO MD, C. Robert C. Robert Biondino, MD, 67, passed away Saturday (October 9, 2010) at MidState Medical Center. He was the beloved husband of Sharon (Service) Biondino, his loving wife of 46 years. Born August 7, 1943 in Bridgeport, CT, he was the son of the late Charles and Isabelle Dortensio Biondino. A longtime resident of Wallingford Doctor Biondino was a graduate of the Choate School 1961, Princeton University 1965 and the New Jersey College of Medicine 1969. He interned at the Medical College of Virginia in1970. Robert served in the United States Navy as an officer and physician on the Sioux Indian Reservation in Winnebago, Nebraska for the United States Public Health Service. Dr. Biondino was a practicing orthopaedic surgeon for 30 years. He was a partner in the Meriden Orthopaedic Group for 21 years and a founder of Comprehensive Orthopaedics where he worked for the past 9 years. Dr. Biondino served his residency in orthopedics at Hartford Hospital in1973 as Orthopedic & Chief Resident for Hartford Hospital and at St. Francis Hospital, Newington Children's Hospital and Mt. Sinai Hospital. He became a certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgeons in 1977 and was recertified in 1983. Dr. Biondino was a member of the International College of Surgeons since 1997, the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons since1978, Arthroscopy Association of North America since 1987, International Association of Arthroscopy since1987, and the American Orthopedic Society of Sports Medicine since 1995. He held the following positions and teaching appointments: Orthopedic Service MidState Medical Center, Attending Consultant Orthopaedics John Dempsey Hospital University of Connecticut Health Center, Courtesy Attending Orthopaedics Connecticut Children's Hospital, Courtesy Attending Orthopaedics Bradley Memorial Hospital, Chief of Orthopaedics MidState Medical Center 2004, Vice President Connecticut Orthopaedic Society 2007 and Immediate Past President Connecticut Orthopaedic Society 2010. Bob was a member of the Meriden-Wallingford Medical Society, New Haven County Medical Association, member and former Chairman of the Connecticut State Sports Medicine Committee and the Connecticut State Medical Society Drug & Alcohol Committee. He was a consultant for the C.I.A.C. Sports Medicine Committee for Connecticut High School Athletics, the Consulting Orthopaedic Editor for the Editorial Board of Connecticut Medicine Magazine, the Consultant and Past Editor for Connecticut Sports Medicine, a consultant for the University of New Haven Athletic Program, the Consultant and Team Physician for Lyman Hall High School, the Consultant in Sports Medicine for the Choate School and the Consultant for the Impact/Concussion program for Cheshire Academy. Dr. Biondino was awarded America's Top Orthopaedists in 2008 by Consumer Research Council of America. As a Princeton Tiger, Bob was a member of the Princeton Club and social director for Cannon House in which he participated in its recent return to the campus of old Nassau. He was a consummate bird hunter, skier and a skilled fly fisherman. An avid golfer Bob was a past member of the Farms Country Club and the Wallingford Country Club. He had a unique sense of humor to gently remind us we are all human. An accomplished story-teller he will always be remembered for his timeless rendition of the Italian doctori and the young nun in "I checka, checka, checka". Besides his soulmate Sharon he is survived by his children in Colorado Attorney C. Robert Biondino, Jr. and Alysha Biondino Havrilla, a bilingual educator with whom Bob shared his birthday; his grandsons Chaz Biondino and Brendan Biondino with whom he established a special relationship through a mutual love of sports and the outdoors; his brother Bruce Biondino of Wallingford; his brother-in-law Jack Service and his wife Sue of Meriden; two sisters- in-law: Mary Biondino of Meriden and Paula Biondino of Cheshire; his nieces and nephews: James Biondino and goddaughter Jena Biondino both of Meriden, Todd Service of Meriden, Jaime Service and his wife Trina and their daughter, Bob's great niece Isley all of VT; Giancarlo Biondino, Marissa Biondino and Francisca Biondino all of Cheshire; his faithful Collie "Wolfy" and endless friends and colleagues. He was predeceased by his brother Boyd Biondino and many furry companions. A visitation is scheduled to celebrate his life and the enrichment of our lives on Wednesday (October 13, 2010) at the Choate Chapel, North Elm and Christian Street in Wallingford from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. His Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday (October 14, 2010) at 11:00 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Church, 82 Akron St, Meriden. Family and friends are invited to proceed directly to the Church on Thursday morning. Burial with military honors will be in In Memoriam cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations in memory of Dr. Biondino be made to the C. Robert Biondino Scholarship fund, c/o the Stempien Funeral Home, 450 Broad St., Meriden, CT 06450. The family intends that funds will be used to establish scholarships for a deserving Wallingford student to attend Choate or for a Lyman Hall graduate to attend college.
