ADZIMA, C. Roberta

C. Roberta Adzima (Hanlon), wife of the late Edward S. Adzima, Jr. of Ellington, CT; a native of West Haven, and daughter of the late John and Christine (Meehan) Hanlon entered into eternal rest on October 14, 2012. Mrs. Adzima graduated from the West Haven schools; she received her B.S. degree in Education and Library Science from the New Haven State Teachers College, her M.A. from the University of Conn., and she also held a recognized 6th Year Equivalency. She was a state certified teacher, librarian, and media specialist, and attended both the Taft School and Boston University. For three years Mrs. Adzima was an Assistant Teachers College Instructor and Training School Librarian for the Teachers College of Conn., at New Britain. A former staff member of the West Haven Public Library, the New Haven State Teachers College Library, and the Yale University Library, Mrs. Adzima was also a Practice Library Teacher for New Haven State Teachers College, and a Library Site Supervisor for Manchester Community College. For 26 years Mrs. Adzima headed the Ellington High School Library Media Center, where she served as the Library and Audiovisual Dept. Chairperson, and Coordinator of School Library Media Centers for the Ellington School System. As a volunteer, Mrs. Adzima set up the St. Luke Church Library, the Ellington High School Library, and the Center School Library; also helping in setting up the Windermere School Library too. She was a volunteer at the medical library at Rockville General Hospital and also at the Hall Memorial Library in Ellington. Mrs. Adzima served as the first librarian of the Ellington Historical Society. A member of the Friends of Hall Memorial Library, she belonged to numerous educational, library, and media groups, including the American Assoc. of University Professors. Mrs. Adzima was also a former trustee of the Ellington Cemetery Association and was a founding member of St. Luke Church and the Ellington Historical Society. Mrs. Adzima is survived by her son, Edward P. Adzima, of Ellington; her daughter and son-in-law, Christine and Robert Tobin of Granby; her beloved grandchildren, Colleen, also of Granby, and Sean, of Philadelphia; a brother, John Hanlon of Gaithersburg, MD; a sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Donald Jensen of Shelton; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Robert and Gwen Adzima of Ashford; and a number of nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and cousins.
Friends may call at Ladd-Turkington & Carmon Funeral Home, 551 Talcottville Road, Rt. 83, Vernon, CT on Friday, October 19th from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Bernard's Church, Rockville(Vernon), CT on Saturday, October 20th at 12 Noon. Friends and family will gather at the funeral home at 11am prior to mass on Saturday. Burial will be in Ellington Center Cemetery immediately following. The family will then receive friends and relatives in the St. Bernard Church Hall following the burial.
