Charles Gilbert BULLOCK Obituary

BULLOCK, Charles Gilbert

Gilbert Bullock, loving husband of Dorothea "Dottie" Bustin Bullock for 62 years, died at his residence in Escondido, CA on September 18, 2013. Born on October 28, 1927 in Hartford, Gil lived his younger years in Bristol, the older son of Marion and C. Clifford Bullock, also of Bristol. Gill attended local schools and after graduating from Bristol High in 1945, he entered the U.S. Army and served with U.S. Occupation forces in Germany following World War II. In his high school years, Gil was an outstanding state-class swimmer. During the war years he served as a life guard, at age 15, at the Rockwell Park Lagoon and also at Lake Compounce. A graduate of Springfield College, Gil became Athletic and Program Director of the Bristol Boys' Club before starting a long career in insurance. While with the Hartford Insurance Group, promotions took him and his family first to Cleveland, Ohio and then to Los Angeles. It was there that he decided to open his own insurance agency in La Jolla, CA. During the early transition years he sold insurance by day and drove a taxi by night. He delighted in telling of his taxi cab experiences, including the night he had the legendary song and dance man Jimmy Durante as a fare. His agency efforts proved to be very successful over the years. Gil retained many of his Bristol friends while gaining new ones in California. On several occasions he traveled to Bristol with Dottie in his beloved RV to attend his class of 1945 reunions. In addition to his wife Dottie, he is survived by daughter Kathy Moberg and her husband Wayne of Mammoth Lakes, CA, her daughter Linda Leslie and her husband Tim of Encinitas, CA; one granddaughter, three grandsons; three nieces and two nephews. Gil is also survived by his kid brother, Gerald Bullock of West Harford. Gil was predeceased by his sister, Catherine "Kaye" Bailey of Dover, NH.
