1925 - 2014 Chris Angelos, 89, of West Hartford, died peacefully on Saturday, July 5, 2014. He was born in New York City to George and Athanasia (Katira) Angelos, an only child who was exceptionally close to his cousins. Quick-minded and witty with an eye for detail, he graduated from the New York City school system near the top of his class. Chris served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was employed by Aetna, Inc. for many years. He was an avid Yankee fan, seldom missing a televised game; he also enjoyed reading mysteries and was a disciplined poker player and horserace aficionado. He adored his daughters, nephews and nieces, grandchildren, and great- nieces and granddaughters. Chris often had an impish twinkle in his eyes, but knew how to put on a poker face when the occasion arose. Chris is survived by his devoted wife of 59 years, Vasiliki (Bess) Varelas Angelos. His loving daughters and their families also survive him: Stacey and Robert Schreiber of West Hartford and daughter Marisa; Lisa and Robert Ciccaglione of Fullerton, California and their children, Lea; RJ; and Nina and her husband, Travis Nelson. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren, Sophia and Giana. Additional surviving family members are his sister-in-law, Eleftheria (Ellie) and husband, John Papacosma and their children and spouses, Kate Papacosma and Mike Sacks; Jason Papacosma and his wife, Kristin Haldeman; and brother-in-law Constantine (Costa) Varelas and wife, Melanie; and their children: Peter Varelas and his wife, Dana; and Nicole Varelas Ninesling. The funeral will be held on Wednesday, July 9, at 11 am at the St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 433 Fairfield Avenue, Hartford. Burial with military honors will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery. Friends may call on Tuesday, July 8, from 4 - 7 pm at Dillon-Baxter Funeral Home, 1276 Berlin Turnpike, Wethersfield. Trisayion Service will be performed on Tuesday at 5 pm at the funeral home. Contributions in his memory may be made to the St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral or the Connecticut Humane Society. To share a memory with the family, please visit, www.dillonbaxter.com
