KITTS, Daniel LaVergn
Daniel LaVergn Kitts, 71, of South Glastonbury, passed away at his home on April 12, 2013 with his wife by his side after a hard fought battle with lung cancer. Dan was born in Spokane Washington on July 9, 1941 to the late Dorothy Edith Jarrard Kitts and Charles Elmer Kitts. He is predeceased by his sister Roberta Lynn Eveland. Dan graduated from Seattle Prep in 1959 and the University of Washington in 1964 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering. He worked for Brown Engineering from 1959 to 1963 and for Rocket Research in 1963, After graduation Dan accepted a job at Pratt and Whitney Aircraft in West Palm Beach Florida. He worked at Pratt and Whitney for almost 28 years retiring in 1991. Dan then pursued his interest in metal crafts and knife making. He taught himself how to forge, heat treat, and grind blades helped by his friend and Guild knife maker, the late Don Zaccagnino. In 1996 Dan moved to Glastonbury CT with his wife Andrea. Dan is survived by his soulmate and wife of 21 years Andrea Borondy Kitts, by his children from his first marriage, Kasha Kitts Owers and Charles Brendan Kitts, his grandsons Peter Owers and Andrew Owers, and by his nephews Kevin Vaughan and Mark Vaughan. Dan's family would like to thank Dr. Todd Alekshun. Dan's journey through lung cancer treatment was easier because of his expertise, his care, and his open mindedness and support for all feasible treatment options.
Dan has requested there be no service. There will be a private scattering of his ashes in Florida at a future date.
