David William Hasson Obituary

David William Hasson, 79, of Newington, CT and Plano, TX died on January 17, 2014.He was born to the late Francis and Ann (Halloran) Hasson on April 30, 1934, in Hartford, CT. Dave graduated from Bulkley High School (1952), Trinity College (1958) and the University of Connecticut, School of Law (1962). Dave spent the majority of his career in Council's Office and other managerial posts at Pratt and Whitney Aircraft. Before joining Pratt and Whitney he was a Seaman in the United States Coast Guard and a Special Agent in the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Dave was an active member of Saint Mary Parish in Newington, where he was a lector and CCD teacher for many years. He was a founding member of Catholic's United for the Faith in Hartford. While his sons were young, he was a youth basketball coach for the Newington Parks and Recreation Department. Dave spent nearly every August relaxing at his cottage on Peaks Island, ME. His love of Island life grew and after an early retirement, he moved to Bald Head Island, NC. There he was a volunteer fireman and active member of the Island government, as well as a Board member of the Bald Head Island Conservancy. Dave had two passions. He was a voracious reader and collector of first edition books. Through his reading, he became fascinated with mountain climbing. He climbed many of the highest peaks in North and South America and in 1990 climbed to 22,000 feet and within 4000 feet of the peak of Mount Everest.

Dave is survived by his four sons; Christopher and his wife Venera and Douglas and his wife Anna of Newington, Gregory and his wife Gail of Plano, TX and Stuart and his wife Deirdre of Marietta, GA. He is also survived by his eight grandchildren, Jacob, Gabrielle, Luke, Oliver, Madeline, Aiden, Wyatt and Wallis. He was pre-deceased by his brother Francis (Frank) Hasson of Manchester. A Mass of Christian burial for Dave will take place on Friday, January 24th, at 10:00 a.m. directly at St. Mary's Church, 626 Willard Ave., Newington. He will be laid to rest in Rose Hill Memorial Park in Rocky Hill immediately following the Mass. There will be no calling hours.
