LEWIS, Edgar "Eddie" III

Edgar "Eddie" Lewis III, 71, was called to rest unexpectedly on Monday, (December 24, 2012). Eddie was born Aug. 30, 1942 in Dawson, Georgia where he was raised by his grandmother the late Mattie Pearl Jackson. He remained in Georgia until his graduation from Monroe High School in 1961. Upon graduation he relocated to Hartford, Connecticut. Eddie enlisted in the United States Army and was stationed in Gilhousen Germany as a Military Police Officer during the Vietnam Era. Eddie returned to Hartford and became a bus driver for Connecticut Transit Bus Company, where he remained for over 30 years. After retiring, Eddie returned to Albany, Georgia where he resided until his death. In addition to his grandmother, Eddie was predeceased by his parents Nelly Pearl (Jackson) and Edgar Lewis, Jr; his aunts Mary Alice Smith and Katy Mae Jackson; Eddie was survived by his children: William "Doug" Harris of California, Shelly Hightower and husband Jason of Hartford, CT; Karen Lewis of East Hartford, CT; Eddie Lewis of Bloomfield, CT; and Angela Lewis of East Hartford, CT; four grandchildren: Lesa Lewis-Whittingham and husband Ian of East Hartford, CT; Felicia Johnson of Hartford, CT; and Stephanie and Tia Long both of East Hartford, CT; two great-grandchildren: Devon Daniels and Aston Whittingham both of East Hartford, CT; three brothers: James Williams of Bronwood, GA; Harry Lewis (Gladys) of Plantsville, CT; and Ronnie Lewis (Dorothy Ann) of Dawson, GA; a sister Janie "Sista" Lee (Bobby) of Albany, GA and a devoted cousin Pete Smith of Atlanta, GA; as well as ten half brothers and sisters and a host of nieces, nephews cousins and friends.
Eddie's life will be celebrated on Monday, Jan. 7 11 a.m. at ALL FAITH MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 90 John Fitch Boulevard, South Windsor CT; with calling hour at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Veteran's Cemetery in Middletown.
