Ednalou C. Ballard Obituary


Ednalou Croft (Macloskey) Ballard, 72, wife of Norman D. Ballard of Farmington, CT, passed on; Friday, February 28, 2014 at St. Mary's Hospice in Waterbury, CT; after a long and valiant struggle with cancer. Ednalou was one of three children born to Louis & Virginia Macloskey in Philadelphia, PA on January 3, 1942. Ednalou, a graduate of Temple University, was a well-respected CFP & RFC. A pioneer of women in the financial service industry. An accomplished writer, speaker and columnist. She served as President & Chairperson of the International Association of Financial Planners, Inc., CT Chapter. In 1980, Ednalou launched her own firm, Financial Planning Centre, Inc., currently known as Ballard Associates, a joint venture with her husband. An active Rotarian of 30 years and former President of the Farmington Rotary, Ednalou was a Paul Harris Fellow Award recipient. Her list of accolades and awards would fill the page, chosen by The Farmington Historical Society to receive an award Honoring Farmington Women. She was a devoted member of the First Church of Christ Congregational 1652 of Farmington and passionately sang in their choir. Ednalou was an exquisite gardener, tending her English garden like a canvas, painting her favorite place to entertain with family and friends. Her historical home and garden was a noted stop on the Farmington Historical Society Garden Tour. Another passion was skiing every Friday during the winter months with friends. Ednalou was usually seen surrounded by her loving and eclectic girlfriends referred to as "The Bad Girls" (Doing Good), they experienced life to its fullest while raising funds for charitable causes. Other than her husband, Norman, she is survived by her daughter Sandra Ballard of Unionville, CT, a son Scott Ballard (wife, Lynda) of Devon, England, a brother Louis Macloskey (wife Judy) of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, a sister in law Claudia Mueller (husband Leonard), of Huntington Beach, CA, a brother in law Steven Ballard (wife Marlene) of Reno, NV. Grandchildren: Kenneth S. Silva of Farmington, CT, Steven B. Torres (wife Erica) of Lowell, MA, Chelsea Edwards of Unionville, CT, Lily & Takara Ballard of Devon, England. Nieces: Rev. Juliann Whipple (adopted daughter, considered Auntie Edna), Renee Post & Monique Heinz. Nephews: Geoffrey Pugh, Willard Pugh. Grandnieces: Tyler & Jordin Post, Rylen & Camden Heinz, Willow, Chloe & Alexis Pugh. Grandnephews: William Whipple, Adam & Jonathan Pugh all of FL. And last, but not least, her beloved Pekingese, Bowtie. On March 22nd, 2014 at 10am, a memorial service in Celebration of Ednalou's life will be held at The First Church of Christ Congregational on 75 Main St., Farmington, CT. A reception will follow in the Porter Memorial (adjacent to the church). In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to Ednalou's favorite charity, The Hope Day School in Sierra Leone, through The First Church of Christ Congregational.
