GAINTY, Edward F.

Edward F. Gainty, 79, of Wethersfield, beloved husband of Irene (Brajczewski) Gainty, passed away peacefully, Sunday, (June 24, 2012) at Hartford Hospital with his devoted family by his side. He was born April 18, 1933 in Hartford and was the son of the late Edward T. and Anne Frances (O'Connell) Gainty. Ed was a graduate of Wethersfield High School, Class of 1951 where he was on the track and soccer teams. He was a proud US Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War. He was a carpenter for several private contractors building custom homes in Wethersfield and West Hartford. In 1970 he joined the Carpenters Union Local # 43 where he also served as Recording Secretary for 12 years. He was the Business Organizer for Local # 43 for 8 years and served as the President of the Retiree's Club. Ed was a member of the American Legion and one of several remaining members of the VFW in Wethersfield. He loved to garden and had a green thumb for making anything grow. He enjoyed his 2 to 3 mile a day walk here in town and at Cape Cod which was a home away from home. He will always be remembered for his love of clamming, grilling and his famous Margarita's. He loved going on a yearly vacation to Florida with his family and spending time at the beach. Ed enjoyed being with his buddies, Al Schumann and Gordon Farr for weekly lunches. Ed was an avid sports fan, especially watching Wethersfield High School soccer games and the New Britain Rock Cats baseball games. He loved nature and all animals large and small. The trip to Ireland for Ed's 75th birthday with his family was a highlight for Ed and his family. His love of life, strong spirit, faith, unending optimism, laughter and love were felt by all who knew him. A very special thank you to Dr. Robert Siegel and his nurse, Annie as well as the nurses and staff on the 2nd Floor of the Conklin Building for the care, love and compassion shown to Ed and his family. In addition to his wife, of almost 50 years, Irene he is survived by his three daughters, the joys of his life, Kathleen G. Hoffman and her husband Bradley of Avon, Marianne G. Troian and her husband, Jeff of North Granby and Susan F. Gainty of Newington; his brother, Thomas Gainty of Florida and New Hampshire; his sister and brother-in-law, Anne and Col. John Gullen, Ret., US Army, of Alexandria, VA; grandchildren, Bryanna. Michael, Matthew, Maya, Benjamin, Johnathan and Christian; as well as brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Patricia R. Stewart.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at Corpus Christi Church, 601 Silas Deane Highway, Wethersfield. Everyone is asked to please go directly to the church. The burial with full military honors will be in Rose Hill Memorial Park, Rocky Hill. Calling hours are Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. at the D'Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield.
