Dr. Edward Force Obituary

Dr. Edward Force, 75, of Windsor, peacefully passed away on Friday evening with his loving daughter by his side. Son of the late Emmett Force and Edna May Maiwald, Edward was born and raised in Middletown, NY and resided in Windsor for nearly 40 years. He received his Ph.D. in German Literature from Indiana University and taught German in the Department of Modern Languages at Central Connecticut State University for 42 years. Edward's aptitude for languages afforded him a successful 40-year long career as a translator for Schiffer Publishing Company. Edward was also an avid entomologist, geologist, and botanist who encouraged environmental stewardship as well as communal research among his students. He was an advisor in multiple, local 4-H clubs in Hartford County. "Uncle Ed" was the field trip chairman of the Gem & Mineral Clubs of Bristol and Manchester as well as an active member of the Meriden and New Haven Gem & Mineral Clubs. He was a brilliant, knowledgeable man whose gentle spirit will be greatly missed by his family, colleagues, and former students. Edward leaves two daughters, Lisa Force and Ellen Force, both of Windsor, and a cousin, Diana Maiwald Wight, of Albany, NY. Private services will be held at Carmon Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Avenue, Windsor, CT 06095. Memorial donations may be made to the Connecticut Humane Society, 701 Russell Road, Newington, CT 06111. To send notes of condolence to his family, please visit www.carmonfuneralhome.com.
