HANDEL, Erin L.
Erin L. Handel, 35, of East Hartford, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, (March 19, 2013), at her home. Born in Hartford on Feb. 22, 1978, a daughter of Robert D. and Lisa E. (Tryon) Handel; she had been a life-long resident of East Hartford. Erin was a lovable individual who worked hard to graduate from East Hartford High School, Class of 1999. Erin loved church and was a faithful member of South Congregational Church, East Hartford. She was very active in the East Hartford Day Program, sponsored by Oak Hill of Hartford. She loved music and was a fan of soccer and swimming and was a former participant in the Connecticut Special Olympics. Along with her caring and devoted parents, Bob and Lisa of East Hartford, Erin is survived by a brother, Jared R. Handel of Jackson Hole, WY; a sister, Rebecca "Becky" Handel of Honolulu, HI; her paternal grandmother, Jessie (Kusiak) Handel of East Hartford; her maternal grandparents, George L. and Elaine (Drusnick) Tryon of Glastonbury; three aunts, Betsy Rodrigue and her husband, Richard, Michele Bock and her husband, Randy, Carol Hoffmann and her husband, Peter; one uncle, A. Philip Handel, III and his wife, Maya; five special cousins, Michael, Ashley, Jenna, Taylor, and Evan; and many dear friends.
Funeral services will be Sunday, March 24, at 2 p.m. at South Congregational Church, 1301 Forbes Street, East Hartford with Rev. Al Turner officiating. Private burial will be held at the convenience of the family. Relatives and friends may call at the D'ESOPO-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford on Saturday, March 23, from 4-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Erin's name may be made to SOFT, c/o Barb and Dave VanHerreweghe, 2982 So. Erin's family would like to extend their sincere appreciation and gratitude to Dr. Carrie Streim and her staff, along with the entire staff at Hartford Hospital (11th Floor-Bliss Wing) for their professionalism and wonderful care given to Erin.
