DOWD, Gerald "Jerry" Joseph

Gerald "Jerry" Joseph Dowd, 81, passed away peacefully on Tuesday (February 19, 2013). He leaves his devoted wife of 56 years, Pauline (Langlois) Dowd, who cared for him with love and gratitude during his courageous battle with cancer. Jerry was first generation born to Irish immigrants Patrick and Catherine (Foley) Dowd on October 7, 1931 in Hartford. He attended Hartford area schools until he was drafted and honorably served in the Army during the Korean Conflict as a squad leader and sergeant. After returning from Korea, he attended trade school where he earned his electrician's license. Jerry retired form Hartford Hospital after 40 years as an electrician and Foreman of the Grounds Department. He enjoyed playing set-back with family, friends and won many championships at the Elks and Knights of Columbus. Over the years he volunteered his time and services to numerous organizations including, his church, McGinley-Crafa Little League and Meals On Wheels. He leaves son, Dennis and wife Cheryl of Berlin; daughter, Catherine Campbell and husband Peter of East Windsor; son, David and wife Paula of Burlington; daughter, MariAnne Lalama and husband John of Wethersfield; and daughter Patricia Dowd of Windsor Locks; 13 grandchildren, five great-grand children; brother, John Dowd of Windsor; in-laws and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brother, Lawerence Dowd.
Family and friends may gather on Saturday, February 23, 9:15 a.m. at the Carmon Poquonock Funeral Home, 1816 Poquonock Ave., Windsor, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 10 a.m., at St. Joseph Church, Poquonock. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Jerry's family will receive friends on Friday, February 22, from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
