H. Everett Glidden Obituary

H. Everett "Red" Glidden, 92, passed away on January 17, 2014 at Hartford Hospital in Hartford , Connecticut surrounded by his daughter, Susan Light, her husband David, and Red's two granddaughters, Melissa Banfill and Amanda Walter. He was born on July 17, 1921 in Houlton, Maine to Claude Glidden and Elsie Hicks. Red married Mary Galvin in 1946 in Wilson, Connecticut. They were happily married for 59 years. He and Mary enjoyed taking trips across the country. Red grew up in Hartford, Connecticut. He graduated from Hartford Public High School in 1939. After high school he worked for Veeder-Root. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1942 and proudly served his country for 3 years with the 267th Army Air Force Base Unit in England. He was Honorably Discharged in 1945, achieving the rank of Corporal.

Following his Honorable Discharge, he returned to Connecticut, working once again at Veeder-Root where he worked for 42 years. He retired in 1983. Red was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary, in 2004. He moved to Connecticut in 2005 to be close to his daughter and family. Red is survived by his daughter, Susan Light (David) of Windham; his grandchildren, Melissa Banfill (Brian) and Amanda Walter (Lee); and 4 great grandchildren: Tyler & Bryce Walter, and Kyle & Kayla Banfill; and four nieces and one nephew.

A memorial service will be held at the First United Methodist Church, 29 Puddin Lane, Mansfield Center, Connecticut at 1:30 PM on January 29, 2014. Burial will immediately follow at the Windham Center Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to Hospice Foundation, 12107 Majestic Blvd., Hudson, FL 34667, or the Windham Free Library, P.O. Box 168, Windham, CT 06280.
