Harry Price Black Obituary


Harry Price Black, 71, of Simsbury, beloved husband of Janet (Lynch) Black, died Monday, August 4, 2014 at John Dempsey Hospital. He was born October 17, 1942 in Dallas, TX, son of William Horace Black, Sr. and Mary Elizabeth (Price) Black and lived in Atlanta, GA prior to moving to Simsbury 40 years ago. Harry attended North Carolina State College and later he received a certificate in Police Sciences from University of Louisville. Mr. Black was a Detective on the Smyrna, Georgia Police Force for seven years, a Security Director at Riches Department stores in Atlanta and then on to a 16 year career at G. Fox in Hartford as the Vice President of Loss Prevention and Director of all the Lease Departments. He was a member of the Simsbury United Methodist Church and the National Retail Association. Harry had a passion for travel and had the opportunity to travel all over the world. He golfed, skied, hunted, fished, and he always loved a challenging game. Harry was also an avid fan of football, UConn, the New York Yankees, the Atlanta Falcons and the University of Georgia. Most of all everyone will remember Harry's wit and humor. Besides his loving wife of 34 years, he is survived by his three children, Kay Kirsche and her husband Jaime, Michael Black, and Lorraine Johnson and her husband Tim, all of Atlanta, GA; two grandchildren, Eric and Emily Kirsche; his sister, Betty Handlin of Oklahoma; his mother-in-law, Rosalie Lynch; his sister-in-law, Kathy Mussen and her husband Dan; his brother-in-law, John Lynch and his wife Jeanne and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, William Black. The family would like to thank Dr. Peter Schulman, the Cardiac Team and the ICU team at UCONN, Dr. Chi H. Kim, Simsbury Volunteer Ambulance, and Simsbury Police. Friends may call at the Vincent Funeral Home, 880 Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury on Friday, August 8th, from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM. All are invited to the funeral home on Saturday, August 9th at 9:45 AM for procession to a 10:30 AM service at the Simsbury United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery in Bloomfield.
