Herbert Fishman, 85, of Sarasota, FL and Bloomfield, CT, died Monday, (February 27, 2012) with his adored wife for the past 20 years, Norma (Tucker) Fishman, by his side. Born in Cambridge, MA, he was the son of the late Samuel and Gertrude (Ostrofsky) Fishman. He was a US Navy veteran of World War II. Herbert had a Physics degree from Harvard University and worked as a mechanical engineer with United Technologies. He was an avid reader and loved to volunteer at the G-Wiz Children's Museum in Sarasota and produced voice recordings for the blind at the Raymond Memorial Library in East Hartford. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, step-father, grand-father, step-grandfather, and brother. Besides his wife, Norma, he is survived by his children, Sherri and her husband Clint Smith of Franklin, Tennessee, Susan Gold of North Wales, PA, his sister, Selma Furst and her husband Robert of Pittsburgh, PA; grandchildren, Eric Smith of Fairfax, VA, Daniel Gold of Westchester, PA, Seth Gold of North Wales, PA, Andrea Magill and her husband Rob of Philadelphia, PA; Step-children, Marshall and Regina Grossman of East Granby, Jonathan and Carol Epstein of Ladue, MO, David Epstein of South Windsor and step-grandchildren, Max Grossman of Boulder, CO, Isaac Epstein of Boulder, CO, Gabriel Epstein of South Windsor, and Nathan Epstein of South Windsor. He also leaves many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
A funeral will be graveside on Friday, March 2 at 2 p.m.at The Temple Sinai Memorial Park Cemetery, 41 W. Hartford Rd., Newington, with Rabbi Jeffrey Bennett officiating. Following interment, the family will receive friends at Norma's home in Bloomfield on March 4 and 5th, and again in the afternoon at her home in Sarasota on March 7 and 8th.
