Ismael "Mike", "Cadillac Mike" Acosta, Jr., 66, of Hartford, beloved husband of Iris Rivera-Acosta went home to God Thursday, February 20, 2014 at home surrounded by his loving family. Mike was born on September 30, 1947 in Santurce, Puerto Rico and is the son of the late Ismael and Petra (Figueroa) Acosta. His parents brought him to Hartford and he was raised in the Charter Oak Terrace neighborhood, living there for more than 35 years. He was employed as a plant operator at Metropolitan District Commission (MDC) for 25 years retiring in 2011. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. Mike was a kind and gentle man and the love he expressed to all the people in his life was very special. He loved music and dancing. He worked very hard yet always took time to play with his toys such as his Cadillac, motorcycles and a boat. He would spend his leisure time watching the Knicks, Yankees or Giants on his big screen television, playing billiards, spades or dominos in his man cave garage. His favorite pastime was fishing with his friends Teddy and Tito in Niantic. Besides his wife, he is survived by their children Anitress and Mikal. Mike also had a daughter, Trina and two sons, Ismael and Aaron, 12 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly. He is also survived by his brothers Jose and Tony and his sisters Lucy, Gloria and Nancy. Mike's brothers Gilberto and Miguel predeceased him. The funeral will be Tuesday, (February 25, 2014) at 11:00 a.m. at the D'Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Boulevard, Wethersfield, CT 06109 with the Rev. Paul Echtenkamp officiating.
