James Butler Obituary


James Butler, of Bloomfield, CT entered into eternal rest on 12/20/2013. He was born Sept 7, 1923 in Plains, GA to proud parents William and Odia Butler. He was predeceased by his late wife Shirley R. Butler and Sisters Bernice Smith and Nettie Clemons. He was a member of Bethel AME Church in Bloomfield, CT, where he served as both Fidelity Usher and member of the Steward Board. Employed by Hartford Despatch and Whse Co., he served as Assistant Vice President, retiring in 1986 after 37 years of service. James served in the U.S. Army as a sergeant during WWII. His unit landed during the Normandy D-Day invasion and was attached to General Patton's 3rd Army. He was a member of VFW 1992 Bloomfield, CT , a 33rd Degree Mason, Honorary Past Master of Excelsior Lodge #3 of Hartford, CT and Composite Lodge #22 F&AM PHA, Consistory #80 and Past Potentate of Makalia Temple #172. He is survived by three sons, James Jr. of Fort Worth Texas, Derrick and his wife Carina of South Windsor, Aaron and his wife Elsie of Bloomfield, three wonderful grandchildren, Jordan, Moorea and Aaron Jr., brother William of Bloomfield, devoted nieces Rev. Judy Simpson and Delores Clemons, several other nieces and nephews relatives and friends, and very special friend Betty Battles. James was a man of faith, responsible, respectful, loyal, kind hearted, and will be missed by his family and friends. Relatives and friends may join the family for funeral services on Friday, Dec. 27 at 12 noon at Bethel AME Church ,1154 Blue Hills Ave., Bloomfield, CT. Masonic tribute 9:30am Calling hours are 10:30 with church services at noon. Burial with military honors will follow at Mount St. Benedict Cemetery Bloomfield, CT www.henrylfuquafuneralservice.com
