James H. "Jim" Minella Obituary

James H. "Jim" Minella, 77, of Bristol, beloved husband of Elizabeth "Betty" (Gravlin) Minella, died on Sunday (January 5, 2014) at St. Mary Hospital, Waterbury. Jim was born on December 9, 1936 in Bristol and was a son of the late Anthony and Cecilia (Quanz) Minella. He was a lifelong Bristol resident and was a Veteran of the United States Navy. Jim served as a vice-president at the former Community Savings Bank then at Webster Bank before retiring. He was a member and past-president of UNICO, a member of the American Legion, and was a former member of the Bristol Lions Club. He was active in local politics serving on the Board of Assessment Appeals and also served as treasurer for several democratic candidates for local office. Jim enjoyed playing cribbage, was a fan of the Yankees, and especially enjoyed his time with his grandchildren. He was a member of St. Gregory Church in Bristol. In addition to his wife of 51 years, Jim is survived by a son and daughter in law, Michael and Laura Minella of Rockville; two brothers and sisters in law, Jon Theodore "Ted" and Carol Minella of Naples, FL, and David and Margaret Minella of Darien; a sister, Mary Minella of West Roxbury, MA; two grandchildren, Sophie and Dominic Minella; and several nieces and nephews including a special niece, Sheri Dombroski. He was predeceased by a sister and brother in law, Antonia and James Miades. A Mass of Christian Burial for Jim will be celebrated on Thursday (January 9, 2014) at 11:30 AM at St. Gregory Church, 235 Maltby Street, Bristol, followed by military honors. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. Funk Funeral Home, 35 Bellevue Ave., Bristol is in care of the arrangements.
