John L. Monteleone Obituary

John L. Monteleone, 85, of Simsbury, formerly of Suffield and Enfield, died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on January 9, 2014. He was born June 13, 1928 to the late Olga F. and Salvatore Monteleone of East Canaan, CT and was the loving husband of Sarah Z. (Ozmun) Monteleone. He is survived by John T. and Angela Monteleone of PA, Rena and Lee Becker of WA, Gary and Anita Monteleone of Suffield, Mary and Mark Raben of WA, Jennifer Monteleone of VT, Dennis Ozmun of Windsor Locks, Chris and Diane Ozmun of Colchester, Andy and Sue Ozmun of Avon and a bountiful blessing of grandchildren and great grandchildren who provided joy and support through their loving ways. John is also survived by his sister Marguerite Segalla of Canaan, in-laws Lucille and Joseph Sottile of Canton, Anthony and Mary Zampaglione of East Granby and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, Julie Hayes Monteleone in 1982, brother Nino Monteleone and infant grandson Anthony Taylor Ozmun. John was a veteran of the U.S. Army 8th Air Force and Air Force Air Intelligence Division. John was a member of UNICO of Enfield, religious education teacher, lector and Eucharistic Minister at Sacred Heart Church in Suffield and at McLean Home and St. Francis Hospital for many years, as well as a member of the Enfield Chapter of Holy Family Monastery Retreat League. John was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels in Hartford and Simsbury, past President and Operations Manager of Enfield Loaves and Fishes for 10 years and current member of St. Catherine of Siena Church in West Simsbury. The family will receive visitors in celebration of John's life on Monday, January 13 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 265 Stratton Brook Rd., West Simsbury, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. A reception in the parish hall will immediately follow. Interment will be private at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Holy Family Retreat Center, 303 Tunxis Road, West Hartford, CT 06107 and/or Foodshare, 450 Woodland Ave., Bloomfield, CT 06002.
