Joseph D. Bonito Obituary


Joseph D. Bonito, age 84 of Windsor Locks, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 25, 2014 at Kimberly Hall in Windsor. He was the son of the late Marietta (Pierro) and Anthony Bonito. He was born May 24, 1930 in Hartford and lived on Front Street. Joe proudly served the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict 1950-53 and later moved to Windsor Locks with his wife Ruth in 1960. Joe loved to do volunteer work especially at the Noden-Reed Home. He was also President of the WL Historical Society, Chairman of the WL Historical Commission, the River Valley Tourism, Municipal Historian, and he oversaw the Ella Grasso Scholarship award. He also was a Notary Public volunteer at the WL Senior Center. Joe was an avid Boston Red Sox fan and he also played at countless New England events with his band, The Anthony Quartet. He leaves behind his wife Ruth of 54 years; his son, Joseph A. Bonito; his daughters Mary Roberge and Ann G. Lach; along with four grandchildren, Hayley Hamilton, Christy Tuten, Aubree Roberge and Jeffrey Bonito. He is further survived by his brother, Vito and his wife, Jeannette, and Tony Bonito and his wife, Kathi. He was predeceased by his two sisters, Rose Valente and Grace Lewis. Visiting hours for Joe will be held on Friday June 27 from 3-6 p.m. with a funeral service to follow at 6 p.m. at the Windsor Locks Funeral Home, 441 Spring St. Burial will be held privately at the convenience of his family.
