Joseph J. Catanzaro Obituary

Joseph J. Catanzaro, 89, of New Britain, CT., died Saturday August 9, 2014 at home surrounded by his loving family. Joe was born in New Britain and was the son of the late Luciano and Mary (Pandolfo) Catanzaro. Joe served his country honorably in the United States Navy on the U.S.S. MacKenzie. He worked for many years for Vincent Lech Provision, purchasing in 1976 when Catanzaro Quality Meats was formed. Joe had a strong work ethic. He started as a shoe shine boy at a very young age. He was first and foremost a family man. He will be remembered for his dance moves, card playing, love of music, and summer crabbing at the Connecticut shore. Joe, with his infectious laugh, had a very optimistic outlook on life and will be missed by all who knew him. Joe is survived by his beloved wife of sixty two years, Eleanor Catanzaro of New Britain, his five children, Jon Catanzaro and his wife Pamela of Palm Harbor, Florida, Nancy Caturia of New Britain, Bruce Catanzaro and his wife Nancy of Bristol, CT, Mirya Catanzaro of New Britain, CT, and Lawrence Catanzaro and his wife Cathy of Plainville, CT, his brother Sebastian Catanzaro of Hebron, CT, his sister Ann Alger and her husband Ernest of Plantsville, CT, his eleven grandchildren, Nichole, Carla, Jon, Joseph, Miguel, Joseph, Nina, James, Tracie, Kelli and Bill. Six great grandchildren, Arthur, Joseph, Briana, Danielle, Jacob, Zackary and several nieces and nephews. Joe was predeceased by his two sisters Lucia Smith and Nancy Catanzaro, his brother Paul A. Catanzaro, and his son-in-law Clifford J. Caturia. Thanks and appreciation to Fred Marseli for his endless supply of DillyBars to his uncle. A Celebration of Joe's life will be held Thursday, August 14, 2014 at 10a.m. at Holy Cross Church, Farmington Ave., New Britain. Burial will be private. Military honors for Mr. Catanzaro will be accorded at the church after the mass. The American Flag will be presented to Joe's wife, Eleanor. There are no calling hours. Service of comfort provided by the Paul A. Shaker/Farmingdale Funeral Home, 764 Farmington Ave., New Britain, CT.
