When their children were young the family enjoyed camping trips throughout the U.S. and visited many of the National Parks. Joyce and her husband enjoyed Elderhostels in the U.S. and Europe. Other travels included Hawaii, Mexico, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. Favorite pastimes Joyce enjoyed were tennis, gardening and hiking. Indoor favorites were painting, ceramics, reading and opera. She was active in the Buena Vista Garden Club, The League of Woman Voters and the Junior League.
