Leonard Virello Obituary

Leonard Virello, 86, of Bristol, beloved husband of Mary (Klaczany) Virello, died peacefully on Wednesday (July 16, 2014) at Apple Rehab in Avon. Leonard was born in Plainville on January 15, 1928 and was the son of the late Anthony Virello and Maria Angela (Fornabaio) Virello. A longtime Bristol resident, he was a United States Army veteran of the Korean War. He entered the National Guard in 1948, his unit was federalized into the U.S. Army in 1950, and he was discharged as a corporal in 1952. He worked at Superior Electric Co. in Bristol for many years and was retired from M.L. Associates. He was a lifelong, active member of St Anthony Church, Bristol where he served as an altar boy. Leonard was a member of the Bristol Elk's Lodge #1010 and the Knight of Columbus Palos Council #35. He was a devoted husband to Mary, and a devoted and loving father of Mark Virello of Boston, MA, Lori Chatfield and her husband Phil of New Hartford, and Lisa Virello of Hingham, MA. He was the "Best Grandpa in the world" to Kate and Georgia. He also leaves many nieces and nephews. Leonard is predeceased by his parents and siblings Lucy Butler, Vito Virello, Ann Berggren, Joseph Virello, Antoinette Bashaw, Nancy Kolb, Michael Virello, Theresa Olson, and Catherine Virello. Funeral services will be held on Saturday (July 19, 2014) at 10:30 AM from Funk Funeral Home, 35 Bellevue Ave., Bristol to St. Anthony Church, 111 School St., Bristol, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 AM. Burial, with military honors, will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Bristol. Relatives and friends may call at Funk Funeral Home on Friday between 4 and 8 PM.
