Lorraine Abran Baker Obituary

Lorraine LeBlanc Abran Baker passed away peacefully on August 8, 2014, comforted by her loving family and her faith. Lorraine was born on September 27, 1924 to Anselme Irene and Nathalie (Clairmont) LeBlanc in Wedgeport, Nova Scotia. She was one of fifteen children and grew up in a home filled with love and laughter. As a young woman, she was an accomplished jitterbug dancer, an activity that she continued to enjoy well into her 80's. Lorraine married Louis Abran in 1945 and began raising her family in Montreal, Quebec. The family eventually settled in the Hartford area, where she was an active member of the French Club and an avid square dancer. Lorraine worked at Arrow Hart, G.Fox, and then Pratt & Whitney until her retirement in 1987. Lorraine enjoyed knitting for charity, especially the Special Olympics. She kept in close contact with her surviving siblings despite their geographic distance. Lorraine loved visiting with her many friends in the Southington and Berlin areas. Most of all, she cherished time spent with her family. She will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate enough to benefit from her generosity of spirit, sense of humor, and twinkle in her eye. Lorraine is survived by four children: her son Maurice Abran of Windsor Locks, CT; her daughter Jocelyne Bauman and her husband John, of Meriden CT; her daughter Ginette Purcell also of Meriden CT and Craig Hill; and, her son Thomas Abran and his wife Susan of Groton CT. She leaves two beloved grandchildren: Kevin Riccio and his wife Janice; and, Danielle Bloom and her husband Matt. She is also survived by three great-grandchildren who gave her great joy: Zachary Riccio, Eric (EJ) Wilson, and Sydney Bloom. She will be remembered by members of her children's extended family who came to think of her as Grandma, especially: Richard Bauman, Ashley and Bryanna Perron, and Kylah Sharp. She is deeply mourned by her surviving siblings: brothers Clifford and Austin; and, sisters Stella, Virginia, and Joanne along with numerous nieces and nephews in Canada and the U.S. Lorraine was predeceased by Louis Abran, the father of her 4 children, in 1980. She later married William Baker in 1985, with whom she spent several retirement years in the Tampa, FL area before she returned to Connecticut after his death to be near her children. Lorraine was also predeceased by her brothers Louis, Donald, George, David, Walter, and Peter; and, by her sisters Ida, Odelle, and Tessie. Friends and family are invited to call at the Berlin Memorial Funeral Home, 96 Main St., Kensington, on Monday August 11, 2014 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM at Sacred Heart Church 66 Cottage St., East Berlin. Burial will be private and at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a .
