Otto E. Dunnbier Obituary


Otto E. Dunnbier, 95, of West Hartford, formerly of Farmington, died February 19, 2014 at Saint Mary Home. He was the husband of Mollie (Ditty) Dunnbier. Otto was born and raised in Hartford, the son of the late Frederick W. and Anna (Hein) Duennebier. He attended Hartford High School and graduated from Trinity College, Class of 1940, before attending Renouard Training School for Embalmers in New York City. Otto joined Taylor & Modeen Funeral Home in Hartford in 1941 as an apprentice embalmer but was drafted the following year to serve with the U.S. Army in the South Pacific. While he was stationed in Venice Florida, he and Mollie were married in 1943. After the war Otto returned to Taylor & Modeen Funeral Home and worked until his retirement as general manager in 1986. He was raised in the Lutheran tradition and was a longtime contributor to the United Methodist Church of Hartford. He was active with the West Hartford Squires, Civitan Club of West Hartford, and the Bloomfield Rotary Club. Otto enjoyed tennis, golf, bowling, and gardening and was a long time member at Fernleigh Lawn Bowling Club. Besides Mollie, his wife of 70 years, he leaves his daughter, Susan C. Dunnbier of Harpswell, ME; his son Timothy S. Dunnbier, his wife, Dr. Anne Stack, and their daughter Hannah Stack-Dunnbier all of Concord, MA; and several nieces and nephews. Otto was predeceased by his brothers Fred C. Duennebier of Waterford and Dr. Harold W. Duennebier of Niantic. The family wishes to thank the staff, nurses and aides at Saint Mary Home and members of the hospice team with Masonicare Partners for the exceptional care Otto received. A Memorial Service will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, March 2, 2014 at the United Methodist Church of Hartford. Burial at Fairview Cemetery, West Hartford was private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the United Methodist Church of Hartford, 571 Farmington Avenue, Hartford, CT 06105 or a .
