It is with heavy hearts that we share the news that Patrick J. Sullivan, 83, of Bristol, CT passed away peacefully on February 5, 2014. He was the husband of his late beloved wife of 55 years, Frances McDonnell Sullivan and he never missed a day without telling us "I miss that woman." Born in Waterbury, CT on January 7, 1931 to the late Patrick O'Sullivan (Waterville, Ireland) and Mary Foley O'Sullivan (Fenit, Ireland). Patrick grew up on South Street with his siblings Eileen, James, John, Marybeth, Veronica and Francis. He attended Crosby High School and then entered the Air Force. Pat then continued his education and graduated from the University of Connecticut with a degree in Business in 1958. He said the 4 years he attended UConn were the best years of his life. He worked for the American Brass Co., briefly and was an accomplished Sales Engineer for Ingersoll Rand Co. Eventually he settled in Bristol and became founder of a number of businesses, Production and Handling Systems, Shelf Rack Inc., Bristol Office Supply and most recently Amstep Products. Patrick loved being a Bristol citizen and was active in Bristol politics and the Democratic Town Committee. With great pride he held the position of Chairman of the Board of Education. Pat was an avid and skilled golfer who played golf all over the world. He relished his time golfing at Chippanee and Farmington Woods Golf Club. Sully loved to play cards with his friends and his friends were many! He was a member of a special group of friends "Menopause Manor" that traveled the world together and had incredible fun. He was a special man and his optimism and ever present whistle will be missed by all who knew him. He is predeceased by an infant son, James and leaves his three children, Debra Raboin and her husband Robert of West Hartford, Patrick J. Sullivan, Jr. and his wife Elizabeth of Cheshire, Anne Eastman and her husband Rory of East Granby. He also leaves his treasured grandchildren and great grandchildren, with wonderful memories of fun, laughter, fireworks and summers in Wellfleet. His grandchildren are Amy Mitchell and her husband Jason, Beth Lachance and her husband Robert, Caroline Eastman Cadet USCG, Andrew Eastman, Patrick Sullivan, III and William Sullivan as well as his great grandchildren, Taylor Mitchell, Patrick Mitchell, Bobby Lachance, Ellie Lachance, Samantha Mitchell and Aiden Lachance. He also leaves many special nieces and nephews whom he loved very much. Patrick also leaves behind his very special, caring companion, Bernice Houston. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, February 9, 2014 between 2:00 and 5:00 p.m. at the O'Brien Funeral Home, 24 Lincoln Ave., Forestville/Bristol. The funeral will be held on Monday beginning at 9:15 from the funeral home to St. Matthew Church, 120 Church Ave., Forestville for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Burial with full military honors will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Bristol. In lieu of flowers , his family suggests donations to either St. Matthew Church, 120 Church Ave., Forestville, CT 06010 or to the University of Connecticut Alumni Association, 2384 Alumni Drive, Unit 3053, Storrs, CT 06269-3053.
