Paul K. Young Obituary

Paul K. Young, 66, of Bristol, husband of Katherine A. (DeCubellis) Young, died on Saturday, July 5 in Branford Hospice after a brief battle with cancer. He was born in Providence, RI on December 29, 1947 and was the son of the late Harold B. Young and Mary (O'Gorman) Young. A Bristol resident since 1976, he was born and raised in Rhode Island. Paul served in the United States Marine Corps from 1966 to 1972 achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant. He served during the Viet Nam Conflict and was awarded the Navy Achievement Medal with Combat "V" in May of 1968. He worked for US Shoe Corporation for 21 years in management finishing his career as Regional Manager. In 1990 he took over management of St. Joseph Cemetery in Bristol and was instrumental in building the Mausoleum. Paul was an active member of the Marine Corps League, Hardware City Detachment, and participated in wake services throughout the state. He also participated in Eagle Scout Award presentations and ROTC presentation in area schools. He was a member of the American Legion and the VFW. He was part of the steering committee that helped form St. Joseph Church Pastoral Council and served on the Board for St. Vincent DePaul Mission of Bristol. Besides his wife, he is survived by his son, Kevin Young, his daughter, Pamela Young, both of Bristol; brother, Ronald and sister-in-law, Bethany ; sister, Mary Alice Houle and sister-in-law, Frances Young all of Rhode Island; 3 granddaughters, Reganne, Jessica and Rileigh,and many nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind two good friends, Lucien Caouette and Hollis St. Germain, both of Bristol. Paul was predeceased by his brother, Alan "Magee" Young of RI. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at 11:00AM in St. Joseph Church, 33 Queen Street, Bristol, CT. Calling hours will be held Wednesday morning from 9-11AM in the church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Bristol. DuPont Funeral Home, 25 Bellevue Avenue, Bristol, is in charge of arrangements.
