Peter Kiro, 94, of East Hartford, beloved husband of 35 years of Marjorie (Lathrop) Kiro, peacefully entered into eternal life on Tuesday, (July 3, 2012) at his home. He was also the loving husband of 38 years to the late Veronica "Mickey" (Fitzgerald) Kiro of East Hartford. Born in Hartford on July 1, 1918, a son of the late Frederick and Anna (Ciopryna) Kiro, he had been a life-long resident of East Hartford. Pete was the former owner and operator of Kiro Service, Main Street and Park Avenue, East Hartford with his late brother Mike. He also worked at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft, East Hartford as a foreman and later at Holland Machine in East Hartford. A very active Elk, Pete was a charter and life member of the B.P.O.E. Lodge #2063, East Hartford where he was a past trustee and director of the House Committee. He was presently a member of the Manchester Elks Lodge # 1893. He was a lifetime member of the Irish-American Home, Glastonbury and an avid loyal fan of the Boston Red Sox, UCONN Men and Women basketball teams. Pete was a talented athlete who played on several area baseball, football, and softball teams. Besides his beloved parents and first wife, "Mickey", he was predeceased by a brother, Michael Kiro of East Hartford, and two sisters, Mary Gill of Manchester, and Stephanie "Bessie" Koropatkin of East Hartford. Along with his present wife, Marjorie, Pete is survived by a son, Peter J. Kiro and his wife, Dorothea "Dottie", of East Hartford; a daughter, Judith "Judy" Raffalo and her husband, Robert, of Old Saybrook; five special grandchildren and nine adored great-grandchildren, Peter W. Kiro and his wife, Mary Jane, of Goffstown, NH and their children, Kristin, Kory, and Kevin Kiro; Gina Phillips and her husband, David Phillips, of Waterford and their children, Chelsea, Callyn, and Carley Phillips; Timothy J. Kiro and his wife, Danielle, of East Hartford and their son, Matthew Kiro; Tracy Terlizzi of Palatka, FL and her son, Danny Lombardo; and Alexander J. "AJ" Terlizzi, Jr. and his fiancée, Allyson DiRocco, of Groton and his son, Alexander J. Terlizzi, III. Pete also leaves many nieces, nephews, dear friends, and his care-giver, Jenny Lewis, who gave Pete and his family such great care, support, love, and compassion.
Funeral services will be Saturday, July 7 at 9 a.m. from the D'ESOPO-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter St., East Hartford with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, corner of Main Street/Maplewood Avenue, East Hartford. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery, East Hartford. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home chapel on Friday, July 6 from 4 to 7 p.m. Officers and members of the Manchester Elks Lodge #1893 will conduct an Elks Ritual at 6:30 p.m. on Friday evening at the funeral home chapel.
