Raymond McLAUGHLIN Obituary

McLAUGHLIN, Raymond

Raymond McLaughlin of Avon, CT, passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on Friday, (January 25, 2013) at age 82. Born in Paterson, NJ, on March 15, 1930 to parents Joseph McLaughlin and Catherine Paulus McLaughlin, Ray attended St. Mary's Catholic School system, where he was an athlete, playing basketball and baseball, and voted Most Popular. After graduation, he married his childhood sweetheart, Dorothy Draeger, to whom he was married for 62 years and raised five children, prior to his death. Ray attended trade school and spent his career in the Heating and Air Conditioning industry, working for Powers Regulator Company and United Technologies. Ray's work started as hands-on and later evolved to Project Management responsibilities, with high profile projects including the Schlitz Brewery in Syracuse, NY, campus buildings at Princeton University and NYU Medical Center, and his flagship project at Epcot Center, in Orlando, FL. Most of his knowledge came from experience, and he was proud of his "Working Man's Ph.D." Ray moved his family to Avon, CT in 1970, and enjoyed spending his leisure time working outdoors in the yard and in his gardens. His ideas for lawn, garden, and home improvement were never fully realized, but he was a dreamer and always had multiple projects in progress. His attention to detail and quest for perfection is a trait shared by all of his children. He was an avid reader, and regularly read the newspaper, home and real estate magazines, and the occasional biography. His favorite way to start the day was to go out for a good breakfast, and was a regular at the LaSalle Market and Village Restaurant in Canton. Ray is survived by his wife Dorothy, his son Raymond Jr. and his wife Denise, his daughter Joanne, his son Thomas and his wife Sharon, his son Michael and his girlfriend Paula, his daughter Karen and her fiancé Matt, and his daughter-in-law Carol. He also leaves a twin brother, Robert "Gig" McLaughlin, beloved sister Catherine "Kaye" Geers, several nieces and nephews, six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
Private family services will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the .
