EGE, Richard A.

Richard A. Ege, 90, of Higganum, went to be with the Lord on May 23, 2012. Richard was born in Bristol, CT in 1922, the youngest son of Anton and Ottilie Ege. He joined the Navy in 1942 and served as a Signalman in the Pacific. Upon his discharge, he worked delivering ice cream for Sealtest. He also worked for the Town of Meriden and settled in at Pratt & Whitney as a Security Guard for the remainder of his working years. He retired from Pratt & Whitney in 1983 and immediately got to work as the groundskeeper at the Apostles of the Sacred Heart in Higganum, designing and building an outdoor Stations of the Cross. Richard stayed active his whole life. In his earlier years, he loved to travel to Europe and was an avid golfer. In his later years, he enjoyed metal detecting, his short wave radio and was doing yard work right up to the end. He volunteered at the soup kitchen for many years and made approximately 50,000 rosary beads for charity. Richard was predeceased by his loving wife of 58 years Edna Kennedy Ege and his daughters Lynda Kennedy and Debra Pratt. He is survived by his children, Rick and Jen Ege and Sandy and Ray Newman, both of Florida, Nancy Ege, Kris and Scott McQueeney, Noel and Tom Furtado and Cathi and Ron Goldberg, all of Connecticut, Bob and Kim Ege of Maine and Jessica and Bob Gorino of Idaho.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10:15 a.m. from the Biega Funeral Home, 3 Silver St., Middletown followed by an 11 a.m. Funeral Liturgy in St. Peter Church, Higganum. Burial with military honors will be in the State Veteran's Cemetery, Bow Lane, Middletown.
