DAVIES, Richard W.

Richard W. Davies, age 67, of Woodbury, CT, passed away peacefully in his sleep on July 24, 2013 after a long courageous battle with cancer that he fought with dignity and tremendous strength. Mr. Davies, the son of the late Frederick Warren Davies and Yvette Bertrand Davies, was born in Lynn, MA on April 8, 1946. Mr. Davies graduated from Wakefield (Massachusetts) High School in 1963. He received a B.A.- History Degree, Cum Laude from Salem State College in 1967, an M.A. Degree from Purdue University in 1968, and a Juris Doctorate Degree, Cum Laude in 1971 from Boston University School of Law, where he was on the Law Review. He clerked for the Supreme Court of Connecticut for Justice John R. Thim and, upon Mr. Thim's retirement, for Justice Herbert S. MacDonald. He was an associate for the Greenwich, CT, law firm of Hirschberg, Pettengill, Strong and Nagle from 1972 to 1974, when he joined Hubbell Incorporated as Assistant General Counsel and later became Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary. His most recent title was Senior Vice President Legal Affairs of Hubbell. Besides his soul mate and loving wife of 31 years, JoAnn Errico Davies, he leaves his one and only child, Richard Warren Davies, Jr. who currently resides in Atlanta, GA; a brother, Glenn Davies and his late wife, Nancy, of Salem, NH; a sister, Corinne Davies Bonin and her husband, John, of Salem, NH; his mother-in-law Josephine (Betty) Errico and his late father-in-law, Joseph E. Errico, Jr. of West Haven, CT; his brother in law Joseph Errico III and his wife, Donna, of West Haven, CT; sisters-in-law Martha Errico Carey and her husband, Robert, of West Haven, CT; and Diana Errico and her fiancé, Ken Smith, of Oconomowoc, WI; nephews Jason Carey, Joseph Errico IV, John Errico, Ross Davies, and David Bonin and his wife, Rachel; and a niece, Pamela Davies Storlazzi and her husband, Anthony, and great-nephew, Tyler. Mr. Davies loved history and enjoyed travelling the world with his family, skiing with his son in Vermont, wing-shooting and sporting clays, golfing, Lionel model trains, and summers at his in-laws' lake cottage. He was a member of The Country Club of Waterbury, CT, and Orvis Sandanona, Millbrook, NY. Rick's family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Drs. Scott Gettinger, Kevin Becker, Jonathan Gage, and Lawrence Hirsch and the entire staff at Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale New Haven. They would also like to thank Dr. Lecia Sequist at Massachusetts General Hospital. Memorial contributions in memory of Richard W. Calling hours will be held Friday, August 2, from 4-8 p.m. at the Woodbury Funeral Home of Munson-Lovetere, 2 School St. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 3, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 294 Main St. South, Woodbury, CT.
