CIARLEGLIO, Robert Sr.
It is with deep sorrow that the family of Robert "Bob" Ciarleglio, Sr., 79, announce the passing of their Husband, Father and Grandfather, May 1, 2013 after a long illness. He died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born Oct. 22, 1933 in New Haven, son of the late Eugene and Antoinette Ciarleglio. After graduation from Boardman Trade School, Bob enlisted in the U.S. Army. He was a proud Korean Veteran, loving to share his stories with friends and family. After completing his tour of duty, Bob met and married Irene Santavenere of Cromwell where they lived and raised one son and two daughters. He was co-proprietor of Tony and Bob's Service Station, later owner of Cromwell Motors. In 1968 he joined the Operating Engineering Local 478 where he remained until his retirement in 1995. He was a 3rd Degree member of DeSoto Council #6, Knights of Columbus, a former member of the Lions Club, Italian American Club, The American Legion and the VFW. Bob's favorite hobbies included fishing, cooking, gardening, and pickling his sauce and peppers. He was an avid N.Y. Giants football fan! He is survived by his wife of 54 years Irene (Santavenere) Ciarleglio of Cromwell, his daughter Renee and her husband Victor Mihailescu of Palisades Park, NJ, his son Robert Joseph Ciarleglio, Jr. of Cromwell, and his daughter Laura Maturo of Middletown. He will be especially missed by his two cherished Grandsons Daniel Mihailescu and Nicholas Maturo who were the light of his life. He is also survived by his sister Phyllis Barbato of North Haven, his brother Anthony Ciarleglio and his wife Maryann of North Haven and his sister-in-law Dolores Ciarleglio of Westbrook. He will be sorely missed by his in-laws, whom he thought of as brothers and sisters, Viola and Clifford Jefferson of Shrewsbury, MA, Loretta and William Bernard of Palm Beach, FL and Gilbert and Melita Santavenere of Sebring, FL. In addition he leaves many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Eugene Ciarleglio, Jr.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, May 6 at 10 a.m. at St Francis of Assisi Parish, 10 Elm St., Middletown, CT. A burial with Military Honors will follow in the family plot in St. Sebastian Cemetery, Middlefield, Ct. Relatives and friends are asked to go directly to the church.
