BULLARD, Robert E.

Robert E. Bullard, 92, loving husband of 64 years to Shirley Bullard, died on September 12, 2013 at Hartford Hospital. He was born in Middletown on June 23, 1921, the son of Charles S. and Anna Bullard. Following his marriage in 1949 he resided in Wethersfield and subsequently moved to Rocky Hill in 1999. A devoted husband, father and grandfather who cherished family gatherings to celebrate Holidays, birthdays, anniversaries and accomplishments of family members. He was always involved in the activities of his children and grandchildren. Bob took great pleasure in woodworking, making furniture for his home and that of his children. He also enjoyed gardening, golf and traveling. In addition to his wife he is survived by his two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Walter Zultowski of West Granby and Barbara and Thomas Delorm of Kensington; also grandchildren, Alison Zultowski, Melissa and her husband Jesse Cohen, Jennifer and Andrew Delorm. Two great-grandchildren, Max and Stella Cohen. He was predeceased by a sister Eveline B. Nelson and a brother Charles S. Bullard Jr. Bob retired from the Connecticut Mutual Life Insurance Company after 43 years of service as Director of Agency Finance and was a Registered Representative of the National Association of Security Dealers. He served as Treasurer of the Company's Employees Club. Bob was a member of the Wethersfield Civitan Club for many years, a member of the First Church of Christ in Wethersfield, the Wethersfield Historical Society and a volunteer driver for the Meals on Wheels Program. During World War II Bob was stationed in England with the 392nd Bomb Group of the 8th Air Force and flew a tour of combat as engineer gunner on a B 24 Liberator Bomber. His 18th mission was to the Normandy beachhead on D Day, June 6, 1944. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal. Bob was a member of the Mighty 8th Heritage Museum in Savannah, GA and a Founding member of the American Air Museum in Duxford, England. In 1993 Bob and his wife visited the site of his air base in Wendling, East Anglia.
Burial with military honors will be at the convenience of the family. A memorial service will be held at the First Church of Christ, 250 Main Street, Wethersfield at 2:00 September 27, 2013 with a reception in the church parlor following the service. Those who may wish to make a memorial gift in is name may do so to the Memorial Fund of the church.
