Robert Gordon Becher, 55, of Cromwell, sadly passed away while pursuing his passion of duck hunting on Tuesday, January 7, 2014 in Westport, MA. Born in Hartford, he was the son of Frederick W. Becher, Sr., of Portland and the late Diane Dimock Becher. Robbie spent his early years in Wethersfield, later moving to East Haddam as a teenager. He was a proud veteran of the U. S. Navy Submarine Service, serving aboard the USS Trepang (SSN-674) submarine. After his service in the Navy, Rob was nationally recognized for his work as Senior Account Executive for the Lauretano Sign Group in Terryville, CT. More recently, Rob stood out as an enthusiastic member of the Cabela's team in East Hartford. He loved working with his friends at the Quinebaug Kennels in Canterbury and fulfilling his dedication to dogs, waterfowling, upland bird hunting and fishing. Robbie was an avid outdoorsman and was passionately involved in the Wallingford Rod and Reel Club, the Cromwell Outboard Association, the Groton Submarine Veterans Club, and a member of the U. S. Submarine Veterans Association. Besides his father, Rob is survived by his brothers; Frederick W. Becher, Jr., his wife Susan of Lyme, and Wesley R. Becher II of South Glastonbury, three nieces and two nephews, Courtney, Kristen, Laura, Eric, and Stephen Becher, three aunts, Elna Jensen Dimock of Bolton, Patricia Dimock Martin of Stockbridge, MA., and Vivian Becher Moore of Tallahassee, FL., as well as many cousins. He is also survived by his stepmother Beverly (Hallberg) Becher of Portland and her children; Gordon Hallberg and his wife Maureen, Jackie Burdick and her husband Thomas, and Carl Hallberg and his wife Martha. Rob also leaves behind his beloved yellow Labrador Retriever, Cody. A service will be held Tuesday January 14, 2014 at 11 A.M. at the First Church of Christ, 250 Main Street, Wethersfield. Burial with military honors will follow in Village Cemetery, Wethersfield. There will be no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to either: Mikey's Place, 5 Grist Mill Road, Wethersfield, CT 06109 or the Connecticut Humane Society, 701 Russell Road, Newington, CT 06111, in memory of Robert G.
