Robert J. Seiler Sr. Obituary

Robert J. "Bob" Seiler, Sr., 68, lost his battle with cancer on November 19, 2013, leaving all of Newington with a hole in its heart. Bob leaves his loving wife of 28 years, Meg Sautter. Bob was born in Hartford, graduated from Bulkeley High School, attended AIC, and moved to Newington in 1963. In 1967, he joined the Newington Volunteer Fire Department, and currently serves as Chairman of the Board of Fire Commissioners, and as President of the Newington Veterans Firefighters Association. He became a member of the Newington Police Department, retiring as a Sergeant in 1997, after 25 years. Bob has been a member of the Kiwanis Club since 1999, and currently serves as President. He was a constant presence at the Kiwanis Flea Markets. He has been an integral fixture as a Newington Human Services Department volunteer since 1998. He assisted in the management of the food bank and developed a passion for helping those in need, while giving them dignity in their plight. For the past six years, he was Treasurer of the Memorial Day Parade Committee. He and Meg loved to travel to amazing destinations throughout the world, and with their friends, they enjoyed competitive shooting and memorable motorcycle adventures. He is survived by his mother, Dorothy (Martino) Seiler, of Newington, two sons, Jonathan and Robert, two grandchildren, Joseph and Danielle Vignone, his sisters-in-law, Karen Seiler, Cathy Sautter and her husband Josh Iwanik, and Barbara Sautter, brother-in-law, John Sautter, his beloved cousins, Patti and Laura, and countless other cousins and dear friends. He also leaves behind his three Schnauzers and two cats. He is predeceased by his father, Joseph F. Seiler, Sr. and his brother Joseph F. Seiler, Jr. Meg would like to thank the staff of The Connecticut Hospice and Vevette Greenberg for their extraordinary care and compassion. In Bob's own words, "It was a hell of a ride." His Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013, at 10:00 a.m. at the Newington Memorial Funeral Home, 20 Bonair Ave., Newington, with Rev. Janet Stoddard officiating. He will be laid to rest in West Meadow Cemetery, Newington. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Friday, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Newington Memorial.
