Robert T. Alton Obituary


Robert T. Alton, 86, of Glastonbury, loving husband of 60 years of Joan (LaCroix) Alton, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 10, 2014 with his caring family by his side at Hartford Hospital. Born in Hartford on January 13, 1928, a son of the late Harold E. and Florence (Kennedy) Alton, he had been a life-long resident of Glastonbury. Robert was a graduate of Glastonbury High School, Class of 1946 and a proud veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Prior to his retirement, Robert was employed for many years as a Printer by The Hartford Insurance Company. He was a 50-year member of the American Legion, Post #56 of Glastonbury and was a member of the American Legion Bowling Leagues. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing and was a talented vegetable gardener (especially of hot peppers and tomatoes). Robert was also a loyal fan of the Boston Red Sox and UCONN Men's and Women's basketball teams. Besides his parents, Robert was predeceased by his step-father, William Roberts of Glastonbury; a son-in-law, Jeffrey M. VanSoest of East Hartford; and a daughter-in-law, Nenita C. Alton of East Hartford. Along with his beloved wife Joan, Robert is survived by his five children, Charles R. Alton of Glastonbury, Jeffrey R. Alton of East Hartford, Pamela J. VanSoest of East Hartford, Judith M. Simpson of Glastonbury, Thomas W. Alton of Glastonbury; a brother, David O. Roberts of St. Cloud, FL; seven special grandchildren, Michelle Quilles, Jeffrey Alton, Jr., Christina Alton, Mark VanSoest, Amy Dombek, Carrie VanSoest, William Simpson, III; six adored great-grandchildren, Malina Quilles, Angelina Quilles, Xavier Quilles, Jada Quilles, Isaac Quilles, Aliya VanSoest; several nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Funeral services will be Thursday (May 15th) at 10:30 am at the D'ESOPO-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford. Burial with military honors will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, (Section 1), Hebron Avenue, Glastonbury. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home chapel on Wednesday (May 14th) from 4-7 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Robert's name may be made to Hartford Hospital Pastoral Services Fund Development, 80 Seymour Street, P.O.
