ABBOTT, Ruth Duncan

Ruth Duncan Abbott, 87, of Seabury Retirement Community Bloomfield Connecticut died Tuesday, (April 10, 2012). Born in Philadelphia, PA, Miss Abbott was the daughter of the late Henry Edward and Christina Duncan Abbott and the sister of the late Donald Duncan Abbott of Clayton, NY. Surviving are three nephews, Kevin D. Abbott of Parker Ford, PA, Mark D. Abbott of Durham, NC and Brian W. Abbott of Morgantown, PA. Miss Abbott was a graduate of the Pennsylvania Hospital School of Nursing in Philadelphia, PA and received her B.S. in nursing education from the University of Pennsylvania and a M.S in public health nursing from Western Reserve University in Cleveland Ohio. She had also done post graduate study in Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing at New York University. She was a former Executive Director of The Visiting Nurse Association (VNA) of Hartford until her retirement in 1989. She joined the staff of the VNA of Hartford in 1967, following public health nursing supervisory work in Pittsburg, Minneapolis, and New York City. Miss Abbott was an active member at Seabury Retirement Community and Chaired the Health Committee.
