SCOTT, Susan (Decker)
Susan (Decker) Scott, 58, of Avon, beloved wife of Mark Scott, died Saturday, (February 16, 2013) after a courageous six year battle with breast cancer. Born in Hawthorne, NJ, daughter of the late Richard and Gertrude Decker, she was raised there and graduated from Purdue University with a BA in Retail. She continued her education at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, NY, and began her career as an executive trainee with Lord & Taylor in 1976 rising through the ranks to become the Evan Picone buyer. Susan had the biggest buying responsibility in the women's sportswear area. She joined Sak's Fifth Avenue in 1982 and designed and developed the very successful Real Clothes Collection for the company. Susan later was a partner and designer for the Alexa Sterling and Scott and Sterling women's golf collections. Susan appeared on QVC several times showcasing her collection. Besides her husband, she leaves her son, Colin and daughter, Dana both at home in Avon; a brother, Richard Decker in New Jersey; and a sister, Connie Decker in Indiana; she also leaves brother-in-law, Robert Scott and his wife Dianne; and sister-in-law, Cindy Scott and her husband John French, all in California.
Burial will be in the George Washington Memorial Park Mausoleum, Paramus, NJ. A Memorial Service in celebration of her life and work will be held Friday, Feb. 22, 2013, 11:30 a.m. at the Carmon Funeral Home & Family Center, 301 Country Club Rd., Avon. Her family will receive friends from 10:30-11:30 a.m. prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to the Rd., Farmington, CT 06032.
