Thomas Edward Tracey Obituary


Thomas Edward Tracey, 83 of Windsor formerly of Trumbull, passed away Monday, March 31, 2014 at his home. Tom was born in The Bronx, NY on August 7, 1930, son of the late Thomas Tracey and Catherine (Malone) Tracey, and was a graduate and active alumnus of Cardinal Hayes High School in the Bronx. He received his BME from the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, MME from UConn, and MBA from the University of Bridgeport. Tom was a member of the National Society of Professional Engineers, the American Society of Professional Engineers, Tau Beta Pi National Engineering Honor Society, Phi Kappa Phi National Scholastic Honor Society, and Beta Gamma Sigma National Business Administration Honor Society. Tom was a Registered Professional Engineer in New York, Connecticut and Rhode Island, and an active participant of the International Society of Parametric Analysts. He worked for many years for Hughes Danbury Optical Systems, formerly Perkin Elmer, in Danbury before retirement. Tom was a brilliant thinker and a proud member of MENSA. He excelled in woodworking and created many beautiful pieces of furniture for his home, office, and gifts for family. During his leisure time, he enjoyed playing tennis, running, and spending time on the golf course. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean conflict. Tom is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Catherine "Kay" (Hennessy) Tracey and four children, Steven Tracey and his wife Valerie of Newtown, Thomas Tracey and his wife Beth of Suffield, Edward "Teddy" Tracey and his wife Kim of Rochester, NY, and Catherine Dowler and her husband Tom of Old Saybrook; a son-in-law, Steven Hine of Wethersfield; and a niece, Kathleen Zack and her husband Gary of Pequannock, NJ. He also leaves 14 grandchildren; a brother, Patrick Tracey and his wife June of Tolland; 9 nephews and 2 nieces. Tom was predeceased by his beloved daughter, Patricia Hine. A Roman Catholic Mass will be said in his honor at St. Gertrude's Church, Windsor, 5:00 PM Saturday April 26th with a reception to follow at River Town Village Clubhouse, Windsor. Private burial to take place in Windsor Veterans Memorial Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the , 2075 Silas Deane Hwy #100, Rocky Hill, CT 06067.
