Thomas J. Leone Obituary

Thomas "Tom" J. Leone, 79, beloved husband of Justine "Tina" Leone of 57 years passed away on June 17, 2014, surrounded by his loving family. Over the past 10 years Tom faced his illness with great strength and dignity, and remains an inspiration to his family and friends for his optimism, courage and endurance. Born, raised and resided in Farmington, CT, son of the late Tomaso and Natalina Leone. Tom was the very proud and loving father of his three daughters and 3 grandchildren: Debby and her husband Tom Magenheimer and their son Clayton; Jayne Leone and Larry Burdorf; and Kara and her husband Patrick McIntosh and their daughters Paige and Meghan Skinner. Tom was pre-deceased by his brothers Arthur Leone and Orlando Leone and is survived by his brother Albert Leone and his wife Jane and his sisters Mary Fasolo, Rosina Frascatore, Anita Metivier, Jean Bouchard, Catherine Lee and Phyllis Leone wife of Arthur. Tom was a graduate of Farmington High School class of 1952. Tom served in the U.S. Navy from 1952-1955 in the Seabees and the Naval Reserves until 1960. He was awarded The Korean Service and The National Defense Service medals. Tom was a Manager with Farmington Valley Express, an Inside Sales/Service Manager for Rourke-Eno Packaging Systems and a Merchandiser for Supply Systems with Unisource, where he retired in 1999. Tom was a member of the Farmington Volunteer Fire Department for 60 years where he was First Assistant Fire Chief for 17 years and received numerous Public Service Awards from the Secretary of the State's Office; The Connecticut VFW Post 10361; and The American Legion Hanrahan Post #32 in Unionville. He was a past member of The Connecticut Fire Chiefs Association; The Hartford County Emergency Plan where he served as Treasurer; The Societa Cittadini di Lenolese; and the Men's League at Westwoods Golf Club where he had 2 holes in one. Tom maintained an active lifestyle serving in his community, as well as participating in bowling and softball leagues and spent time outdoors tending to his garden, fishing and playing golf. Friends may call at The Ahern Funeral Home, 111 Main St., Unionville, CT, on Monday, June 23, 2014 from 8:30 am to 10:30 am. Funeral procession from The Ahern Funeral Home will be Monday, June 23 at 10:30 am followed by the Mass of Christian Burial in the Church of St. Patrick, 110 Main St., Farmington, CT at 11:00 am. Burial with full military honors will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Garden St., Farmington. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Farmington Volunteer Fire Department, 76 Main St., Farmington, CT, 06032, or The American Legion Hanrahan Post #32, P.O.
