Toffin P. Narus Obituary

Toffin P. ( Tuffy) Narus, 94 a resident of New Britain for the past 67 years passed away August 19, 2014 at Walnut Hill Care Center in New Britain. Tuffy, as he was known to family and friends was born March 18, 1920 in Bridgewater, Mass., son of the late Peter G. and Hedwig ( Podzis) Narus. He grew up in Nort Chelmsford and was educated in the Chelmsford school system graduating in 1938. Tuffy was a Staff Sergeant in World War II and he served his country initially as a Squadron Chief Clerk with the U.S. Army Air Force at Shawfield, S.Carolina and later as a Tank Commander with the 21st Tank Battalion 10th Armored Div. U.S. Army participating in battles of Central Europe ending VEDay in Germany. Discharged in 1946 he moved to Connecticut where he played semi-pro baseball, pitching for several teams in the Ct state and New Britain Industrial Leagues. He was employed by the New Britain Machine Co. and United Aircraft of East Hartford and cofounded the New Britain Cam Co. from which he retired in 2004. Tuffy is survived by one sister, Genevieve Edmunds of Eastham, Mass., two brothers Peter J. Narus and his wife Rosemary of Southington, Ct., Albert Narus and his wife Theresa of North Chelmsford, Mass. and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister Angela Zawodny and her husband John of Lowell, Mass. Funeral services are in the care of Venskunas Funeral Home 670 Stanley St New Britain, Ct. which are private. Burial with full military honors will follow in the Connecticut State Veterans Cemetery in Middletown, Ct. The American flag will be presented to his brother Peter Narus.
